Blue Genes
This is a monotype from my first Reduction Woodcut design and it is one that I am particularly fond of. It is a collaboration piece between my grandfather, Thomas F. Chouteau, and myself. The original image that inspired this woodcut was a little sketch that I made when I was 4 years old. My grandfather, then, went into that sketch and added little details, some circles, and some stippling to make it into what he called a, “Wire-Bender.” Years later, he mailed me that original little drawing as a card with a marbelized paper background, congratulating me on getting accepted into the Fine Arts Program at Iowa State University. I took that original drawing, enlarged it, added colors and a background, and made it into my first Reduction Woodcut.
This is a high-quality scan of the original hand-pulled print, re-printed on heavy cardstock, then hand-signed and trimmed ready-to-frame in a standard 11x14 frame. It would be a nice addition to any space in your home.
